Forum: classic_tv Subject: Does anyone have any episodes of "Barley Charlie"? It will be PD in a few years

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't Australian TV copyright last 50 years? Does that mean that "Barley Charley", Australia's second television sitcom (and the first for which anything survives) will be PD in 2015? Does anyone have any episodes? Honestly, they couldn't be worse than anything on MTV lately. Being crushed to death by sand wielded by a handsome young ninja named Gaara would be more fun than MTV's line-up.

Also, does the same apply with British childrens shows produced on film? If so there's a show I will upload in 2017....

Three episodes (4, 5, and 6 - with NFSA timecodes) have been doing the rounds for years - shouldn't be hard to find copies.

And it was the third Aussie sit-com, not the second!

Where do I get copies? You say " doing the rounds for years" but I don't know these rounds.

Also, do any episodes exist of "Australia's Amateur Hour"? It was a 1950s series that *wasn't* live, but was kinescoped in advance.

They've been circulating in the hands of Australian TV collectors for at least a decade - all three were on YouTube at one point. I can supply copies, if need be.

I think at least one episode of "Australia's Amateur Hour" survives - clips from it pop up every so often.

Thanks for the reply.

This is a bit of a random question, but could I "borrow" some of your YouTube uploads of 1950s/1960s commercials? Or better yet, could you upload some of the pre-1964 commercials to here?

To be exact, I need commercials for discontinued brands and products for a YouTube series I've been working on (and I also would like to use them in a Internet Archive series I occasionally post).

I guess I don't mind you re-upping them here, so long as I'm credited as the source.

I wouldn't rely on any pre-1964 commercials automatically being public domain - there's the audio component to take into account as well. The "Louie The Fly" Mortein was made in 1962, so the vision is PD, but the sound's not.

Still, in cases where the brand / product no longer exists, you'd be pretty unlucky to ever be taken to task over it (unless the ad uses library music from someone like KPM or Chappell, etc).

Thank you. I often get requests for non-US commercials in my "Classic Commercials for Defunct Products" series of videos on YouTube. (unlike on the Internet Archive, I am far less concerned with copyright on YouTube). On the next video, I will give you credit and link to your YouTube account.

It is a series of videos compiling commercials for discontinued products.

EDIT: just edited together episode 42 of the series. Five US commercials from adviews section, and five ads from your account (ranging up to 1970s). I will give you credit for the five ads.

I was looking through print ads of the late-1950s (which are presumably still copyrighted, so I can only use them on YouTube, not IA) and was surprised to see that many of the brands advertised still exist, with some exceptions like Rinso, Healing, Kwit, etc...

Barley Charlie?
Is this anything to do with Ley Industrie [Vichy-Jap-Nazi] and the Charlie Manson Murders?
